— Police on Thursday were investigating the deaths of two people whose bodies were found in a Garner home.

A man called 911 at about 10:30 a.m. and told the dispatcher he had killed someone. Communications staff were able to link the call to a home on Whithorne Drive, off Woods Creek Drive, in Garner, said Sgt. Chris Clayton of the Garner Police Department.

Garner police cruiser at crime scene Police: Man called 911 to confess killing

When officers arrived, no one answered, so they entered the house and found the bodies of a man and a woman inside, Clayton said. No one else was in the home, he said.

The names of the victims were being withheld Thursday, pending notification of relatives.

The cause of death hadn't been determined for either victim Thursday, Clayton said.

Although he couldn't say whether the case was a murder-suicide, Clayton said police weren't looking for suspects.

The home is owned by Daniel and Doreen Powell, according to Wake County tax records.

Neighbors said that Doreen Powell recently recently finished a tour of duty in Iraq with the National Guard. The couple have several grandchildren who played with other children in the neighborhood, according to neighbors.

"They've lived over there 12, 14 years. They both worked for the Post Office. They're a real nice couple," said David Lowe, who lives across the street.

The home was taped off for several hours Thursday as investigators processed the scene. Police also blocked access to Whithorne Drive for a while.

Police had been called to the home in the past, Clayton said, but he couldn't provide details on those calls.

Yesterday, N&O & as WRAL listed the victim's names - citing tax records, & stated authorities not releaseing names pending notification of relatitives. Well, I work w/one of the victim's relatives who found out @ work. It was horrible! This is a senseless disregard for humankind and its media sensationalism at its worst. It won't stop until the copy editor or investigative reporter has a tragedy like this one on their doorstep. By the way: Police had in fact been called to this address before, - but because of break-ins, so WRAL, before you defame someone's character, know and report the facts. And for those of you who have deemed yourselves clinical professionals & have already applied the "crazy" label, please STOP, & consider the children, grandchildren, & other relatives and friends who have to suffer this loss. Consider yourselves. People could be blogging this morning about you or your relatives.

Yes, authorities withhold the names of the deceased, yet WRAL's gossip journalism has to search county records to invade privacy anyway.

    No shame whatsoever.

Very irresponsible journalism WRAL. I am sitting with a family member of the victims who has not been notified of their deaths, yet the house, names, and address have been made public. In response to the comments, yes the family is seeing the story, please be respectful to the family as it could easily be yours.

what's the address again, GPS wants ta' know.

WRAL blew it. Reporting the news is one thing but giving out home owners info when logic tells EVERYONE that would more than likely be the victims-that shows disregard on so many levels. Maybe you won't be my homepage...

The names of the victims were being withheld Thursday, pending notification of relatives.

Well....anyone but me think that publishing the address is probably about the same as releasing the names of the victims? I feel sorry for family and friends that find out about this tragedy this way.

Horrible thing to happen.....sympathies and prayers to the family and friends.
