— The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office is seeking public assistance in identifying a man who robbed a convenience store early Saturday morning.

Authorities said that the clerk at a kangaroo Store at 2990 Gillespie Street in Fayetteville called 911 at 3:23 a.m. to report a robbery.

Authorities said the man armed with a rifle told a customer in the store to get onto the ground before taking money from the cash register and taking a pack of Newport 100s from the customer.

The man then left the store and entered a green or blue Chevrolet Cobalt that will missing the driver’s side hub caps.

Detectives spotted the vehicle and gave chase, but lost sight of the car at the intersection of Gillespie Street and Angle Drive.

The man is described as being tall and white with a reddish and long scruffy beard.
