Man with backpack breaches White House security while Trump inside

Posted March 11

— A man carrying a backpack breached White House security late Friday night while President Donald Trump was inside, according to a report by CNN.

The man climbed a fence to get onto the grounds, and he was arrested by a Secret Service member near the south entrance to the executive resident, according to the report. The incident happened just after 11:30 p.m.

Officials placed the White House under security condition "orange" after the incident, which is one of the highest levels of security for the Secret Service.

The agency says the individual — whom it did not identify — was arrested without further incident. No hazardous materials were found during a search of a backpack the individual carried.

Trump was spending the weekend in Washington, D.C. and was alerted to the incident late Friday night, according to CNN.

The Secret Service also says a search of the south and north grounds of the White House complex found "nothing of concern to security operations."

Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly was briefed on the incident.

The agency didn't provide an update on the individual's status. Standard practice is to hand intruders over to the local police department.

Sounds like some of the security people need to be fired for incompetence. This type of gross lapse in security implies negligence or did the Secret Service want this guy to get close?
