DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police Monday were seeking a man accused of shooting an acquaintance in the leg at the McDougald Terrace apartment complex last Wednesday.

Tracy Tarrell Myhand, 28, of Walton Street, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.

Police officers found a 28-year-old man who had been shot in the leg on Ridgeway Avenue around 4:40 p.m. Jan. 7. The victim was treated at Duke University Hospital.

The incident led to a SWAT-team siege of an apartment in the complex, including tear gas, but the apartment was empty when officers entered it.

Anyone with information on Myhand’s whereabouts was asked to call Investigator G.D. Elliott Jr. at 919-560-4582, ext. 239 or Crime Stoppers at 919-683-1200. Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to arrests in felony cases, and callers never have to identify themselves.

Myhand convicted of possession of drug paraphernalia and sentenced to probation in Durham County in 2006, according to state Department of Correction records.
