GOLDSBORO, N.C. — A man wanted in a July 4 rape was arrested Wednesday, Goldsboro police said Thursday.

Jasper Devon Godwin, 40, was charged with first-degree rape and first-degree burglary. He was being held in the Wayne County jail under a $101,500 bond.

Police said a man entered through the unlocked front door of a home in northeastern Goldsboro and sexually assaulted a woman inside the home.

Godwin was convicted in 1993 of second-degree rape and shoplifting, according to state Department of Correction records. He was released in December after serving 16 years of a maximum 35-year sentence.
