SANILAC COUNTY, MI — The Sanilac County Sheriff's Office said deputies dealt with another accident involving a horse in the road.

Deputies said a 55-year-old Melvin man struck the horse on M-90, also known as Burns Line Road, near Shephard Road.

The intersection is in Maple Valley Township, east of Brown City.

Deputies said the impact was so bad the horse ended up on the hood of the truck, it went partially through the windshield, damaging the front steering components.

The head-on impact with the horse caused the truck's driver to lose control and hit another truck head-on.

The driver of the first truck was taken to a Detroit-area hospital. As of Saturday evening he was in stable condition.

The 18-year-old driver and passenger in the second truck were also hurt and taken to a local hospital.

Both have non-life threatening injuries.

Deputies did not tell us how badly they were hurt.

The horse did not survive.

This is the second accident involving a horse in less than a week.

Last Saturday a horse died after it was struck on Maple Grove Road near Custer Road in Bridgehampton Township, south of Carsonville.

The driver involved in that crash was not hurt.
