— Cumberland County investigators were searching Wednesday for a man who robbed an Eastover convenience store of about 6,000 lottery scratch-off cards.

A clerk at the Kangaroo Express at 3319 Murphy Road told investigators that a man ran into the store at about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday and grabbed a plastic dispenser of scratch-off cards. The man tried to grab a second dispenser but was unsuccessful, the clerk told authorities.

The robber, who was wearing a black ski mask and was dressed in a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants and black shoes, ran from the store toward a nearby motel on Dunn Road, authorities said.

The clerk called the North Carolina Education Lottery's Theft Division and had all of the stolen cards voided so they could not be cashed.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office at 910-323-1500 or 910-484-TIPS.

It really doesn't matter, there was not a winner in any of the 6,000 tickets stolen.

To all you Einsteins telling me to use MY brain, I guess I can forgive your ignorance. The post I was responding to has been deleted. However, that post clearly said that this theft was an example of what the lottery has done to this state. So, yeah folks, use your brains and don't blame common theft on the lottery. Sheesh.

Don't spend money you don't have, on anything regardless of it's "promises". Wealth, weight loss, youthful skin, white teeth etc...

Work hard and save, eat less and go for a walk, stay out of the sun, grab a toothbrush... see it's easy.

He will probably try to sell them at half price....

DON'T LIKE THE LOTTERY, THEN DON'T BUY TICKETS, GO WHERE THEY ARE SOLD, AND IGNORE IT. BUT YOU CANNOT DO THAT CAN YOU? COMPLAIN, YES YOU CAN DO THAT. LOL LOL

...the lottery hasn't done anything to the state

Yes it has - it has helped our schools.

  • Professor Oct 14, 2009

They said the lottery is bad because it causes people to simply waste money."

Really, how many tickets have you bought? On yesterday what did you spend $5.00 on? Don't know do you!

  • Professor Oct 14, 2009

They should remove all tickets to the back counter and then it will not be so easy for the criminals to steal. Hope they catch this guy.

  • RAA0013 Oct 14, 2009

Instead of arguing if the lottery is good or bad - if you don't like it...don't buy a ticket. Not one is forcing you to play the lottery.

"EverythingTicksMeOff, please use YOUR brain before commenting. No one said the lottery was bad because tickets were stolen. They said the lottery is bad because it causes people to simply waste money."

You should also take that advice, since the person he was responded to CLEARLY SAID, "This is just the result of what this lottery has done to this state."

Implying that the lottery has made someone a thief just because NC has a lottery.
