FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A man was injured in a stabbing early Friday at a group home for adults, authorities said.

The man was treated at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center for a superficial wound and was taken back to Hope Home Rest Home, at 2967 Dunn Road, said Debbie Tanna, spokeswoman for the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office.

One of the residents was taken into custody, but no charges were expected to be filed, Tanna said.

Investigators said three men – ages 29, 31 and 39 – began arguing at about 2:30 a.m. Drugs and alcohol were involved, according to authorities.

One of the men pulled out a box cutter, another pulled a pocketknife and a third man stepped between them, investigators said. One of the men got a small cut on his back.

A woman who identified herself as the owner of the group home for adults said the other residents were safe.

The home has a capacity of 20 adults, according to records from the Department of Health and Human Services, which regulates such homes.

Records show the home had a few violations, including a citation for not having a smoking policy.
