Man sought in Rocky Mount armed robbery, kidnapping

Rocky Mount police are searching for a 24-year-old man who they believe held up a man and teenage boy at gunpoint and stole their rental car Friday afternoon.

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — Rocky Mount police are searching for a 24-year-old man who they believe held up a man and teenage boy at gunpoint and stole their rental car Friday afternoon.

Investigators said that Jamelle Battle held up David Earl McNeil, 37, and Tony Sharpe Jr., 16, at 416 Sycamore St. around 3:15 p.m. He stole the rented 2009 Toyota Camry and $190 in cash.

Police issued warrants against Battle for armed robbery and two counts of kidnapping. Battle, whose last known address is 416 Apt. D Sycamore St., remains at large.

Police were continuing to investigate the incident.

According to state Department of Correction records, Battle has several convictions for breaking-and-entering and larceny in Wilson and Edgecombe counties between 2001 and 2005.
