Man sought in Robeson store clerk's shooting

Robeson County authorities were searching Monday for a gunman who shot a convenience store clerk during a weekend robbery.

LUMBERTON, N.C. — Robeson County authorities were searching Monday for a gunman who shot a convenience store clerk during a weekend robbery.

The robbery occurred at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday at the 83/501 Quick Stop, authorities said. Clerk Tonya Ransom, 41, was shot during the incident and was listed in critical condition at UNC Hospitals, in Chapel Hill.

The robber is described as a black man, between 5 feet, 7 inches and 5 feet, 9 inches tall with a medium build. He wore dark clothing and a black ski mask. Witnesses told police he was riding in a blue or dark-colored Chevy S-10 pickup with extra-wide mud tires.

Authorities said the robber might be injured.
