Posted December 31, 2009

— Cary police officers are searching for a man who stole a flat screen TV from Colonial Baptist Church, 6051 Tryon Road, on Dec. 12.

During the church’s Christmas program, the man came in through a side door, removed a flat screen TV from the wall in one of the classrooms and left the building, according to police.

Surveillance video shows the man walking around the church for about 30 minutes before committing the crime.

The man is about 26-29 years old, 5 feet 9 inches to 6 feet tall and 250 pounds. He was wearing a green sweatshirt, blue coat, blue jeans and white tennis shoes.

Cary Crime Stoppers pays up to $2,500 for information leading to an arrest. Contact Crime Stoppers at 226-CRIM(E) or Lt. Steve Fonke at 919-462-2002 with information. All calls will be kept confidential at the caller's request.

This is a man that is pathetic enough to steal from a Church and too stupid to realize that if they have enough money to have flat screen TV's in classrooms that they probably spent the money to have video surveillance. The sad thing is that if he needed money, he could have probably walked in the front door, asked and the church would have given him assistance if he really needed it.

Our church has 2 adult men on "security duty" now to prevent thefts from occurring during church services/events. It's pretty sad to steal from a church. Hope they catch this person.
