Man sought in break-in on UNC-Chapel Hill campus

Posted May 4

— Campus police at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill are looking for a man wanted for breaking into a campus hotel and for trespassing at a dorm over the weekend.

Authorities told students, faculty and staff in an email message early Sunday that the man broke into the Carolina Inn, at 211 Pittsboro St., around 10 p.m. Saturday.

A description of the man was vague, however, police said he was wearing a UNC cap, a dark-blue windbreaker and was carrying a white Carolina Inn laundry bag.

On Friday night, police say, the same man followed a student into Craige Residence Hall, off Manning Drive, and went room-to-room asking people if they ordered a taxi and then lingered. One student said Sunday that she believes he might have been trying to steal students' belongings.

He left when a student called police.

Anyone with information about the two cases should call the UNC Department of Public Safety at 919-962-8100.

WRAL is more afraid of AA than they are of the FCC. It is a shame that the station would rather not report a story that to point the finger at a AA

LOL at WRAL with this "vague" comment.

It's a little scary that a news agency would choose political correctness over an accurate description. Good thing this guy isn't a serial killer or an armed rapist or something.

"Young black guy wearing jeans, a T-shirt, and a UNC cap."

That's pretty vague. How are all you armchair detectives going to catch him if he takes off his cap?

Here's the quote from the UNC alert posted 7 hours before your "vague description" claim - "The suspect is described as an African-American male, 20-30 years old, wearing a UNC Baseball cap, Dark Blue Windbreaker, Blue Jeans and a White T-shirt. The suspect is believed to be carrying a Carolina Inn Laundry Bag, white in color."

UNC's description was apparently not "vague" enough for your purposes.
