CLAYTON, N.C. — Clayton police are investigating an attempted robbery at a First Citizens Bank branch Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities said a man walked into the bank, at 10702 U.S. Highway 70 W. Business, around 1:30 p.m. and handed a teller a threatening note demanding money.

He left on foot without any money, police said, and was last seen headed west through a neighborhood.

Investigators said the man never showed a weapon and no one was injured.

Police describe the man as white, about 5 feet 8 inches tall and in his 20s or 30s. He was wearing a white T-shirt, light-colored shorts, sunglasses with orange tint and what authorities described as a "dirty bandana-type head cover."

Anyone with information about the identity of the man is asked to contact the Clayton Police Department at 919-553-4611 or Clayton Crime Stoppers at 919-359-8479.

A Crime Stoppers cash reward of up to $2,500 is available for information that leads to an arrest.
