— Police asked Tuesday for the public's help in identifying and locating a man who allegedly assaulted a jogger at Lake Lynn Park.

The woman told police she was jogging on a park trail at about 7 p.m. Monday when a man struck her twice from behind with a rock. She said the man fled when she screamed.

The woman, who recently moved to the area from Michigan, said she was training for the Boston Marathon. She suffered a concussion in the incident.

The suspect is described as a black male in his teens or 20s who is about 5 feet, 8 inches tall and 160 to 170 pounds. He was wearing a gray hoodie; baggy, light-colored blue jeans; and tan Timberland boots. Two tan-colored designs that were said to resemble a sideways “S” were visible on the back pockets of his jeans.

Police urged people to use caution when by themselves in area parks, including staying aware of their surroundings and noting any suspicious activity.

Anyone with information in the case is asked to call the Raleigh Police Department’s Detective Division at 919-890-3555 or Crime Stoppers at 919-226-CRIME.

Uh, what? First of all, I'm not aware of a revolving door in the position of chief of police. Secondly, people are assaulted in parking lots too...what, you gonna be a witness in court for that too? C'mon. No one can predict where these freaks are going to assaut people and our fine city is relatively safe compared to others its size.

I have written repeatedly to every member of the City Council and to the ever revolving Chiefs of Police in Raleigh to put some police presence on the Greenways......anything....to no avail whatsoever. The city will make sure though that you are not allowed to legally concealed carry with a permit though. They have time enough to put those signs up. With their refusal to do anything about safety on the Greenway I will be glad to testify for this victim in any civil suit brought against the City of Raleigh for their neglect of public safety there. They are ulimately responsible for what goes on there particularly if they insist on the unprotected public also going unarmed. Perhaps they cut a deal with the criminals for a percentage?
