Man sought for trying to burgarlize ex-girlfriend's house

The victim told police that she got a text message from Robert Lee Battle, 26, saying that he was going to break the windows of her house on Dexter Street. She said she then heard a loud noise, looked outside and saw Battle trying to kick in her back. He fled without gaining entry, police said.

Police issued arrest warrants against Battle for first-degree burglary. He remains at large.

Battle is an absconder from probation or parole supervision and is a registered sex offender, according to state Department of Correction records.

He was released from prison in November 2009 after serving time for possessing stolen goods and a probation revocation, DOC records show. He was placed on probation in October 2009 for driving while impaired in 2008.

He was convicted of taking indecent liberties with a 14-year-old minor in 2001, according to the North Carolina Offender Registry. He served five months, including one month for escaping jail, on a minimum sentence of a year and seven months, DOC records show.
