Man sought for questioning in Wilson Target fire

Posted October 15, 2011

— Wilson police are searching for a man wanted for questioning about a fire at a Target store on Saturday.

The fire broke out just after 2 p.m. at the store in the Heritage Crossing Shopping Center at 3401 Raleigh Road Parkway.

When emergency crews arrived, the store was being evacuated and the fire had been extinguished by employees. The fire was contained to a small area near the greeting cards section.

A small amount of merchandise was burned and some ceiling tiles were damaged from the sprinkler system.

No one was injured. There was no word on what started the fire.

The store closed after the fire but is expected to reopen on Sunday.

Police would like to interview a man caught on surveillance video leaving the store.

Anyone with any information about the man or the fire should call police at 252-399-2329 or Wilson County Crime Stoppers at 252-243-2255.

I hope they catch and severely punish the responsible person(s). This has inconvenienced many shoppers, and hurt the store's revenue, not to mention the smoke damaged merchandise. With the economy as fragile as it is, this is a scary thing. Think of all of the workers who would be out of a job if the fire hadn't been extinguished as quickly as it was. Wilson shoppers love Target and hope to see it reopen soon. Hopefully, the store's cameras got a good look at the guilty person(s).

I think that when they catch who done this, they should have to pay for the damages...but they will probably just get a slap on the wrist and be told not to do it again.

WITN indicates that authorities want to talk to persons of interest. This seems to indicate that some of those adults in the second picture may be suspect as well. Perhaps they wanted to creat a diversion while they helped themselves to items in the store. That kind of activity does happen.
