— A 68-year-old man was shot Tuesday afternoon in the 2100 block of Faucette Avenue, near N.C. Highway 70, Durham police said.

Officers responding to the area about 3 p.m. learned that the man was doing yard work when he was shot in the arm and side. The man's name was not released, but authorities said he was treated at Duke University Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Police believe the shots may have come from a white Ford work van, but they didn't release other details about possible suspects.

Anyone with information should call the Durham Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 919-683-1200. Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to arrests in felony cases and callers never have to identify themselves.

So cvdurham, if I understand you correctly, if you're out in your yard at 5am then it's ok for someone to shoot you, right?

This is why one should remained armed at all times.-Red Rascal

So are you suggesting he could have prevented this if he was armed doing yard work???

"What motivates this kind of thing???" - Could it be "initiation"? Oh, but, we don't have a gang problem. I forgot.

Such blatant disregard for human life. We need to ask how/why things are that way and then work on the next generation accordingly. And here's a tip -- it really helps a lot if one or both parents aren't in prison and kids join churches and not gangs.

I don't care how old the man was - who gave the right to those people to drive by and start shooting -I hope he is ok and these scumbags are found -

"He is 68 dude! Thats not old. It use to be, but not anymore."

True, sorry for offending anyone about 68 being old... I am rapidly approaching that age and certainly don't consider myself "old".

Just feeling sorry for this guy, who was most likely shot at random by some wanna-be gang member. And, that is just sad...

Very senseless indeed. I pray that the officers will catch this criminal asap and put him/her behind bars. I am glad that the man will be OK.

What a senseless act of crime! Do criminals just wake up one day and say "I'm going to shoot an old man"!?!
