Man shot in vehicle outside Durham church

Durham police said that a 27-year-old man was shot while sitting in a vehicle outside a church at Taylor Street and North Hyde Park Avenue around 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

DURHAM, N.C. — A 27-year-old man was shot while sitting in a passenger vehicle outside a church at Taylor Street and North Hyde Park Avenue around 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Durham police said.

A bullet struck the man in the left hand, and he went into the No Greater Love Christian Church for help, police said. The victim, whose identity wasn't released, was transported to Duke University Hospital.

Police released descriptions of two shooters: a black man, between 5 feet 7 inches and 5 feet 11 inches tall, wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans and a cap; and a black man, of about the same height, with braided hair, wearing a white T-shirt and jeans.

The men were driving a late-1990s model gold Ford Explorer.
