— A 27-year-old man was shot while sitting in a passenger vehicle outside a church at Taylor Street and North Hyde Park Avenue around 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Durham police said.

A bullet struck the man in the left hand, and he went into the No Greater Love Christian Church for help, police said. The victim, whose identity wasn't released, was transported to Duke University Hospital.

Police released descriptions of two shooters: a black man, between 5 feet 7 inches and 5 feet 11 inches tall, wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans and a cap; and a black man, of about the same height, with braided hair, wearing a white T-shirt and jeans.

The men were driving a late-1990s model gold Ford Explorer.

Anyone with information about the shooting should call Durham Police investigators at 919-560-4281 or Crime Stoppers at 919-683-1200.

I got shot in the vehicle once. Hurt like heck, but only required a bandaid.

Incompetent headline and lead. If the shooting was actually only in the hand, that detail can not wait until the second graph.
