Man shot in Goldsboro

A gunshot wound victim tried to drive himself to the hospital in Goldsboro and caused a hit-and-run wreck Christmas Eve, police said.

GOLDSBORO, N.C. — Goldsboro police are searching for the people responsible for a Christmas Eve shooting.

Tavaris Randell Whitfield was shot was standing near his car in the 1000 block of Devereaux Street, police said. Stray bullets also struck a home occupied by a woman and her 17-year-old daughter, but they weren't injured.

Whitfield drove himself to the hospital, police said, and along the way, he struck another vehicle at Wayne Memorial Drive and U.S. Highway 70 but kept on driving. The second driver wasn't injured.

Whitfield was being treated at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
