Man shot by Fayetteville officer charged with attempted murder

A man who was shot during an altercation with Fayetteville police last month has been charged with attempted first-degree murder and assault on a law enforcement official with a firearm, police said.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A man who was shot during an altercation with Fayetteville police last month has been charged with attempted first-degree murder and assault on a law enforcement official with a firearm, police said.

Herman Harris, 38, of Onyx Court in Fayetteville, was arrested Tuesday.

Police said that, on Aug. 26, officers were dispatched to Covenwood Drive in response to a suspicious activity call. They encountered Harris, who took off running toward King's Cross Apartments on Morganton Road. Officers chased him for about a quarter-mile, a struggle occurred and officer Zachary Pittman shot Harris.

No other information was released.
