Man shot at Goldsboro home dies

A Goldsboro man faces a murder charge after the man he is accused of shooting on Sunday died.

GOLDSBORO, N.C. — A Goldsboro man faces a murder charge after the man he is accused of shooting on Sunday died.

Police said Monday that Brandon Marquett Phillips, 37, of Pikeville, had died at Wayne Memorial Hospital. He was shot in the front yard of  235 Wayne Ave. Sunday.

Charges against Demarko Devon Briggs, 27, of 627 Isler St., were upgraded to murder Monday morning, and he was denied bond. He had originally been charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and given a $100,000 secured bond. He is set to appear in court Monday.

Phillips' death was Goldsboro's first homicide case of 2012.

Briggs has 2005 convictions for assault on a female and wanton injury to personal property, according to state Division of Adult Correction records.
