— A man being stopped on suspicion of DWI jumped out of his car, ran into oncoming traffic and was struck by a vehicle early Saturday, Raleigh police said.

Officers said they tried to pull over Alejnadro Figueroa Bailon, 18, after spotting him driving along Poole Road, at Barwell Road, around 1 a.m. Bailon stopped, but jumped out of his car and ran. He went into oncoming traffic on Poole Road, and a vehicle struck him, police said.

Bailon had non-life-threatening injuries.

Police charged Bailon with obstructing or delaying justice and operating a motor vehicle without a license. He was being processed at the Wake County Jail later Saturday morning.

Police said they will not charge the driver who hit Bailon.

Now why would a fine outstanding citizen like this just take off and run?

I'm sure our tax dollars are paying for his medical care. The USA should bill any country that these people are from for reimbursment of medical expenses!

soooo... what was that blood alcohol level? Or does the initial reason for stop get trumped when suspected criminal runs into traffic? Durham county has shown a preference for "alcohol on board under the age of 21" rather than DUI.

This should appear on the next showing of "Dumb Crook News". This is proof that alcohol DOES impair your judgement.
