Police were searching Thursday for a man who robbed a State Employees Credit Union branch in Fuquay-Varina, a town spokeswoman said.

The bank, at 404 Old Honeycutt Road, was held up shortly before 5 p.m. by a white man in his 20s with facial hair. He was wearing a white and green hooded jacket with an emblem on the left side of the chest and blue jeans.

The robber approached a teller and demanded money before leaving the bank on foot.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 919-552-3191 or 919-567-3906.

"Pretty sad day when the bank across from the Police Station gets robbed..."

Actually, the police station hasn't been across the street for several years now. The station is downtown where the old post office was.
