WILSON, N.C. — A Wilson County man pleaded guilty Tuesday to killing his wife and stepson three years ago and was sentenced to life in prison.

Charles Raper pleaded guilty to two counts of murder in connection with the October 2004 stabbing deaths of Sandra Raper and Ray Batchelor. He received consecutive life sentences for the crimes.

Raper rammed his pickup truck, loaded with containers of fuel, into the family's house before stabbing his wife and stepson with a butcher knife, authorities said.

The couple had a stormy past, with Charles Raper filing an assault charge against his wife and Sandra Raper taking out a protective order against her husband.
