Man pleads guilty to killing romantic rival

Prosecutors said Jamez Jeremiah Mellion walked in on Army Capt. Paul Burton Miner, 38, in bed with his estranged wife.

HOPE MILLS, N.C. — A Hope Mills man pleaded guilty Thursday to the murder of a romantic rival in August 2007.

Prosecutors said Jamez Jeremiah Mellion, 27, walked in on Army Capt. Paul Burton Miner, 38, in bed with his estranged wife at their home at 3909 Goforth Drive. Mellion shot Miner 10 times in the head, stomach and pelvis.

He faces up to 15 years and 9 months in prison on the second-degree murder charge.
