Fayetteville man pleads guilty to three murders to avoid possible death sentence
A man has pleaded guilty to killing three people in in Fayetteville in 2011, and has avoided a possible death sentence.

Shawn Lee Legrand, 49, pleaded guilty Monday afternoon in Cumberland County court and was sentenced to three consecutive terms of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Legrand had been scheduled to face trial starting Monday in Fayetteville for the deaths of Krystle Price Papile, Gregory Steven Fitzgerald and Ardell Paige Jr.
Prosecutors say Legrand stabbed Papile and Fitzgerald and shot Paige, and he shot and wounded two other people.
Legrand was seriously wounded in a shootout with Fayetteville officers before he was arrested.
