Man killed near Vass in crash with log truck

Vass, N.C. — A man was killed in a Moore County crash Tuesday evening when he ran his SUV into the side of a tractor-trailer carrying cut logs, authorities said.

James Westbrook Jr., 69, of Vass, was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 5:30 p.m. on Vass-Carthage Road about 2 miles west of Vass. The truck driver was not injured.

The cause of the wreck is under investigation.
