Man killed in roadway near Wake Forest identified

— The North Carolina State Highway Patrol on Wednesday released the identity of a man killed on N.C. Highway 96 near Wake Forest on Dec. 26.

Mateo Martinez Rodriguez, 55, of 153 Happy Trails Lane in Newton Grove, was standing in the roadway near Old Pearce Road when he was hit by a Nissan Murano.

Rodriguez had no identification and was wearing dark clothing when he was hit, authorities said. Family members were located in Texas by the Mexican Consulate, troopers said.

No charges were filed against the driver.
