Man killed in Harnett County single-vehicle crash

Harnett County, N.C. — Authorities said a man was killed early Saturday morning in a single-vehicle accident in Harnett County.
Douglas Scaggs, 29, of Las Vegas, was driving a 2003 Honda Civic east on Benson Road around 2:30 a.m. at a high speed when he ran off the road, flipping several times and struck a tree before coming to a rest.
Scaggs recently moved to North Carolina and had been living with the passenger in the vehicle, Nicholas Boone.
Officials said Boone is the owner of the vehicle. He was wearing his seatbelt and was not injured in the wreck. He climbed out of the vehicle.
Scaggs was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to authorities, alcohol was a factor in the crash.
Officials said Boone and Scaggs were both at Aviators in Fuquay-Varina prior to the accident and on the way to Nicolas’ home. They were about two miles away from the house when the accident happened.
