SILER CITY, N.C. — One person was killed in an accident at U.S. Highway 64 and Stockyard Road, west of Siler City on Sunday afternoon.

A 2001 Chevrolet Suburban approached the intersection from U.S. 64 West, while a 1995 Honda Accord came north on Frasier Store Road, which becomes Stockyard Road.

The driver of the Honda, Stella Siler, stopped before proceeding to cross the intersection but failed to yield at the light.

Her vehicle struck the Chevrolet in the left rear quarter panel, sending it across the median. The Chevrolet overturned and came to rest in the eastbound lanes of the highway.

The Chevrolet's driver, Ronnie Dale Hunt, 44, of Ramseur, was killed. His wife and three other people were also riding in the vehicle.

Siler, 85, was charged with failure to yield. She was the only occupant of her vehicle.
