Fayetteville, N.C. — A Fayetteville man was killed Thursday afternoon when he fled a traffic stop and slammed into a utility pole, police said.
An officer stopped Michael Edward Blue, 31, of 417 Squirrel St., for a traffic violation at about noon Thursday, but he sped off through a busy parking lot, police said. The officer didn't pursue Blue, police said.
Blue sped out onto Bragg Boulevard and lost control of his vehicle between Swain and Johnson streets, police said. The vehicle ran off the road and slammed into a utility pole, police said.
A preliminary investigation determined that excessive speed was a factor in the wreck, police said.
