— A Fayetteville man was killed Thursday afternoon when he fled a traffic stop and slammed into a utility pole, police said.

An officer stopped Michael Edward Blue, 31, of 417 Squirrel St., for a traffic violation at about noon Thursday, but he sped off through a busy parking lot, police said. The officer didn't pursue Blue, police said.

Blue sped out onto Bragg Boulevard and lost control of his vehicle between Swain and Johnson streets, police said. The vehicle ran off the road and slammed into a utility pole, police said.

A preliminary investigation determined that excessive speed was a factor in the wreck, police said.

he didn't slam into the pole, he split it in half!!!!! the car from the front window forward was GONE, the engine was about 50 feet from the car and the exhaust system was about another 50 foot from the engine. there were car parts spread on both sides of the road. i was at powers swain chevy buying a truck when this happened. i did not hear the crash, but saw the aftermath, including the body of the driver. i don't know why he wrecked, but was told the man was running from the police for an outstanding warrant. now instead of getting arrested, he leaves behind friends and family to cope with this mess!!!
