ASHEVILLE, N.C. — A man has been indicted on a murder charge in one of North Carolina's longest running cold cases.
Asheville police said in a statement that a grand jury indicted 37-year-old Robert Jason Owens on a first-degree murder charge in the death of 18-year-old Zebb Wayne Quinn on Monday.
Media outlets report that on Jan. 2, 2000, Quinn clocked out of his job at 9 p.m. with plans of checking out a new car with Owens. Quinn's last known whereabouts were captured on surveillance camera at a convenience store later that night.
Owens is currently serving a prison sentence for the 2015 killings of 38-year-old Cristie Codd, 37-year-old JT Codd and their unborn child.
Defense attorney Sean Devereux says he had no idea an indictment against his client was coming.
