Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have charged a man in the shooting of his ex-girlfriend and her co-worker, who were both found dead inside the woman’s home early Tuesday.

Jacquece Forest, 28, is charged with two counts of murder in the deaths of Jennifer Smith and Luc Eric Gonzalez. Both Smith and Gonzalez were 25.

Smith, who was originally from the Siler City area, called police to tell them she thought she had seen her ex-boyfriend in the woods behind her house. Officers searched the area, but didn't find Forest or anything else suspicious.

About two hours later, officers pulled over Forest for speeding, police said. He fled on foot to an apartment but was captured and taken to a hospital for treatment. There, he allegedly told staff he had shot his girlfriend.

Capt. Nick Pellicone said officers went to the home and found Smith and Gonzalez dead. A child at the home – the 2-year-old son of Smith and Forest – was not injured.

Smith's friend, Kisha Poage, said the young mother had tried to make it work with Forest for the sake of their son.

"Over the years, she kept giving him chances to prove himself to be a great father," she said. "She was a great mom. Her son was her world."

It wasn't clear whether the child was in the custody of social services or with family members.

Terrible....... this is happening more and more every day.

So sad people think this is how you "fix" problems. Prayers for the family and friends of these two people, but most of all to the little boy who lost his mommy to the hands of his dad.

Let me first start off by saying that Jennifer Smith was a VERY CLOSE friend... MY BEST FRIEND and will be truly missed. Yes the incident did happen in Charlotte but she from from the Raleigh area Silar City to be exact, and its news. News will be reported wether some of you like it or not. Some people are so insensitve. This was someones daughter and Luc was someones son. If you dont like it dont read it, but dont be so rude as to say it didnt happen where you are so its not important. Grow up people. Life is too short, you're here one day and gone the next. Jen had no idea that this man would do what he did to her. Be greatful and Thank God for life each day. We never know when our last day is going to be.

What is the big deal anyway. Is this not the way we are supposed to solve disputes in six gun packing North Carolina?

Sounds like the police messed up in their search.... which led to the murders being committed. westernwake1

WOW!!! You must think that LEO have magical powers to just make people or things appear....ever think he left before Police arrived?
