Raleigh, N.C. — A 23-year-old man who was severely beaten outside a Raleigh bar early Thursday was in critical condition Sunday.
Evan Benjamin Lawrence was in serious condition at Rex Hospital on Saturday, but that had been changed to critical condition a day later, hospital officials said.
Lawrence left the Jackpot Bar, at 1303 Hillsborough St., early Thursday and was involved in an altercation a short time later, police said. His father said that he suffered serious head trauma and underwent about three hours of surgery.
Police have asked for the public's help to identify Lawrence's assailants. As well, they would like to talk to two women and a men who a witness said appeared to be providing aid to him. Police said the three unidentified people might have witnessed the events that led to his injuries.
Lawrence's father, Ben, pleaded for anyone with information to come forward.
"Any bit of information, however small, whether you think it's important or not, please be strong enough and care enough to come forward and let us know," he said.
Anyone with information that might help in the investigation was asked to call Raleigh Crime Stoppers at 919-834-HELP or the Raleigh Police Department’s Detective Division at 919-996-3555.
