I am glad the woman took a chance and ran. Of course we know this was very dangerous, since the man claimed he had a gun. Its not safe any where any more. Not even in the safety of your own home or rental place. You never know who may break-in. Meanwhile, I hope the police catch this dangerous man.

Or, you could walk at 5:45 in the morning, by yourself with a Glock 23 tucked in your waist band and not worry about it. When a man steps out of the dark and claims he has a gun, show him yours first and politley demand that he lay face down on the ground with his fingers interlaced behind his head and wait until some help arives. If that were to happen a couple of times, I would bet that kind of behavior would stop.

The moral of this story is don't walk around alone at 5:45 in the morning. It's not even safe for men to walk around at dark, robbers anyone? If I want to walk I do it in the daytime. It's safest in the afternoon when the street is full of business people, but still be wary. There is no place that is completely safe.

I'm glad this woman had the good sense to run when she noticed he had no gun in his hand. This is why I always walk with pepper spray in my hand, not in my pocket. Besides, you may need to protect yourself against a dog or something, too.

She should get a concealed carry permit and her own weapon, then she can walk whatever time she wants!

Dont lecture anyone on this stuff about earphones etc, because its commonsense. Just like there are criminals there are idiots too.Its survival of the fittest. If you want to live, you have to do more than just go on autopilot, walking with stuff in your ears and walking in the dark.Think and live, be safe.Let those who choose NOT to use common sense be the first to go.Its that simple.

Good advise whateveryousay. It's a shame though, I remember just a few years back when it was safe to walk around here. Things have changed.

I am actually surprised that women walk alone too... I wouldn't, I live in a nice neighborhood, but scumbags have cars too.

I also see them walking with earphone in both ears. HELLO! I know you want to listen to your tunes and all, but would hear a man coming from behind you, NO. I walk with out. The sound of my surroundings is good for me.

They prey on the fact that you could not possibly know they are there if you cannot hear them, or are sooo tuned into your music, are not paying attention to your surroundings...

Dont be a victim..... Find a walking partner, take out the earbuds ladies, and bring a small can of pepper spray.

Autumn - "many of you" could also get the same exercise on a treadmill.. indoors.. surrounded by people. Should you go to those measures to avoid this situation? not necessarily.. but a female walking alone in the dark is a target.. has been and always will be. If you're willing to be that, then don't take the measures necessary to be more safe.
