Man hit, killed on Raeford Road in Fayetteville

Police said the man was walking in the street when he was struck just after 8 p.m. near the intersection of Raeford Road and Duke Street.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A pedestrian was hit and killed on Raeford Road near Duke Street Monday night, Fayetteville police said. 

Investigators said Sylvester Eskridge, 64, was trying to cross Raeford Road when stepped into the path of a 2004 Ford at about 8:15 p.m. He was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where he later died.

The driver, who was uninjured, was not charged.

Fayetteville police diverted traffic around the scene while they investigated the incident.
