Raleigh pedestrian killed by bus near NC State

A 55-year-old Raleigh man died late Tuesday after being hit by a bus near North Carolina State University, police said.

RALEIGH, N.C. — A 55-year-old Raleigh man died late Tuesday after being hit by a bus near North Carolina State University, police said. 

According to investigators, Jeffrey Wayne Powers stumbled into the side of a Capital Area Transit bus and fell into the roadway on Enterprise Street near Hillsborough Street about 9:30 p.m. He was run over by the rear wheels of the bus.

Powers, of 200 Snow Ave., was taken to WakeMed, where he later died, police said. 

No charges have been filed against the bus driver, and police said the bus was going about 5 mph when Powers fell.

Police closed a portion of Hillsborough Street to investigate the incident and re-routed traffic around the area. 

No other information was released.
