RALEIGH, N.C. — A judge combined and reduced the charges against a man who allegedly assaulted a woman in a car parked on the shoulder of Interstate 40 West Feb. 11.

Jerry Black, 33, of 4016 N.C. Highway 42 West, was initially charged with two counts of assault and one count each of second-degree kidnapping, communicating threats, injury to personal property and interfering with emergency communications.

The judge dismissed the kidnapping charge and reduced the others to misdemeanors in a court hearing March 30. Black was sentenced to probation.

He has previous convictions for assault on a female in 2002 and 2003, among other charges, according to the state Department of Correction records.
