Man gets prison time for wreck that killed waitress

Chad Rodman, 38, pleaded guilty to felony death by motor vehicle and was sentenced to 20 to 33 months in prison.

Betty Mathis Moody, 76, was killed May 13, 2009, on U.S. Highway 401 in Wake Forest when Rodman's car crossed the center line and collided with her van.

According to testimony at Tuesday's court hearing, Rodman was taking eight medications for pain and depression, and he had taken some of those medications on the morning of the fatal wreck.

Moody worked the overnight shift at the Waffle House on Hillsborough Street in Raleigh for 28 years and was known to customers as Ms. Betty. She was on her way home to Warrenton at the time of the wreck.
