Man gets life sentence for killing ex-girlfriend, her mother

Posted June 4, 2009

— A Hope Mills man was sentenced Wednesday to life in prison after pleading guilty to killing his former girlfriend and her mother three years ago.

Andrea Scott, 17, and Monica Gacutan, 37, were found beaten and stabbed to death in their Hope Mills home on June 10, 2006.

Michael Anthony McDonald, 21, pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree murder in the case and was sentenced to consecutive life terms in prison without the possibility of parole.

McDonald and Scott had broken up a few days before the slayings, authorities said.

Gacutan was an Army master sergeant whose husband was stationed in Kuwait at the time.

They should be put in a room with no carpet on the floor, no windows, no place to sit or lay down and be fed bread and water for the rest of their lives.

TWC, I'm with you. Why should murderers get free food, housing, medical care, etc that productive members of society can't get? So many people now are homeless and don't have any help, but murderers are living it up, going to classes and the gym.

Would have been better if we could have prevented him from killing anyone, but that's not the way our system works...

I think those sentenced to life without parole should be housed in a separate facility. Why should they have the same privileges as those who will be back in society some day? They should only have basic provisions. Just what is necessary for them to survive. Why should we be feeding them steaks, chicken, any type of food that another living thing had to die for. Beans, bread, potatoes, water.

Another way of looking at life without parole is being sentenced to death in prison. Enjoy!!

I dont know either of the women killed or the man that did the killing but it seems to me he should have gotten the DEATH penalty. Life is too good for someone killing 2 women ages 17 and 37 with so much living to do. That is whats wrong with our judical system. They just slap you on the hand and turn you loose. What a shame..
