Man gets life prison sentence for fatal Raleigh shooting

Jorge Luis Juarez told jurors in his trial Thursday that he was defending himself and three other people when he shot Alfonso Canjay Rincon point-blank early on the morning of Oct. 31, 2012.

Rincon went to investigate a noise outside his home on Foxhall Village Drive and ended up in his car following the four, who Wake County prosecutors say had been breaking into cars looking for stereos.

At some point, according to Juarez, Rincon rammed his car into the car Juarez was riding in, and Juarez rolled down his window and fired.

The jury deliberated for about an hour Friday before deciding its verdict.

Superior Court Judge Robert Hobgood sentenced Juarez to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Rincon had become a grandfather shortly before he was killed, and he worked two jobs to support his wife and four children.
