Fayetteville, N.C. — A 41-year-old man who escaped from Greene Correctional Institution early Wednesday morning was captured in Fayetteville Wednesday evening, the state Department of Public Safety said.
Jeffery Olds, who was serving two to four years for robbery with a dangerous weapon, was discovered missing from the minimum security prison in Maury at about 5:30 a.m. after clothes were discovered near a facility fence, officials said. He was found shortly after 6:30 p.m. at the Coliseum Inn on U.S. Highway 301 in Fayetteville and was taken into custody without incident by the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force.
Officials said Olds is from Cumberland County and believed he may attempt to travel there.
Timothy Cooke, 34, was also arrested and charged with aiding and abetting a known fugitive.
Olds, who was due for release in February 2017, now faces additional charges for prison escape. He will be transported to Central Prison in Raleigh.
