HARRELLS, N.C. — The Sampson County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a 23-year-old man who deputies found while responding to reports of multiple gunshots at a home Wednesday.

A neighbor called 911 around 2:20 p.m., and deputies responding to the scene at 130 Castle Lane in Harrells found the front door to the home partially opened.

Inside, they found the body of Christopher Perice Owens, of Garland. There were obvious signs of trauma to Owens' body, and deputies found multiple bullet holes in the walls, authorities said. No one else was inside.

Evans Cromartie, 24, of Harrells, went to the sheriff's office in Clinton to report the shooting, authorities said. Cromartie had a gunshot wound to his shoulder and was treated at Sampson Regional Medical Center.

Neither victims lived at the residence, authorities said.

Investigators are awaiting an autopsy report to determine Owens' cause of death. Investigators are interviewing witnesses and reviewing evidence from the mobile home.

Anyone with information about the incident at Castle Lane should call the Sampson County Sheriff's Office at 910-592-4141.
