DURHAM, N.C. — A Durham man died early Friday when he was struck by three cars, police said.

The crash happened at about 12:25 a.m. when a Toyota Corolla driven by Rachel Tove-White of Cary was eastbound on N.C. Highway 54 and hit a pedestrian walking in the roadway between Barbee and Goldenglow roads.

The pedestrian, identified as 40-year-old Ryan Williams, was then hit by two other vehicles, police said: a Nissan Altima driven by Tatiyana Karim of Raleigh and a white, four-door sedan that didn't stop.

Williams was pronounced dead at the scene.

N.C. 54 was closed for two hours while police investigated.

No charges have been filed, but the accident remains under investigation.
