Man falls from SUV, dies of gunshot wounds

Witnesses told Mount Olive police that someone pushed a dying man with gunshot wounds from a sport-utility vehicle in a roadway and then sped off Friday morning.

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. — Witnesses told Mount Olive police that someone pushed a dying man with gunshot wounds from a sport-utility vehicle onto a road and then sped off Friday morning.

Police said that a Hispanic man, approximately 40 years old, fell out of the front passenger door of a white SUV in the 1000 block of North Breazeale Avenue, near the Roses shopping center shortly before 11 a.m.

The white SUV sped away southbound on Breazeale Avenue. It was possibly a GMC Yukon, investigators said.

EMS workers transported the victim to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he died. He had sustained what appeared to be gunshot wounds, police said.

Investigators have not identified the victim.
