Man faces murder charge in Garner woman's shooting death

— Garner police have charged a man with murder in the Sunday night shooting of a woman at her home.

Officers responded around 10:45 p.m. to a domestic violence call at 827-D Delta St., where they found Latasha Renee Pierce, 36, shot in the head.

She was taken to WakeMed, where she died early Monday.

Winston Lewis, 35, of Garner, was taken into custody Sunday night and later charged in the case.

Neighbors said Lewis had lived at Pierce's home for a couple of months and that they believe he was her boyfriend.

A man reporting the shooting to 911 said the victim was his girlfriend but that he did not live at the home. He could not say how Pierce had been shot, according to the call. When asked if he shot her, the man said no.

Investigators, however, have not said how Pierce and Lewis knew each other.

Neighbors said Pierce was kind and well-known in the neighborhood. Her adult son and a 2-year-old grandchild also lived in the home, they said.

"Women who live with a gun in the home are 40% more likely to die from domestic violence than women who do not." - babbleon1

Can you prove this? Let's see it.

"Not according to liberals," - Crumps Br0ther

In all my life, I've only known two liberals that were anti-gun (though they weren't Southerners). All the liberals I currently know own guns, and some are conceal carry. All are pro-death penalty too, even if it's pre-trial (i.e. self-defense).

I know him. Does anyone know how I could get in contact with him or his family? Maybe just info to write a letter. I do not live in Garner so I do not know what to do to find out how to contact him. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

another senseless, brutal, vicious act of unmitigated violence. I don't claim to know all the details, just enough to conclude that number of angry young men is on the rise. Sad.

The only thing that can stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. Discuss downtowner

Women who live with a gun in the home are 40% more likely to die from domestic violence than women who do not. This 'bad guy' with a gun probably bought it legally.

How do you tell a bad guy from a good guy BEFORE they kill their girlfriends and wives?

The gun lunatics never miss an opportunity to show their ignorance!

Not according to liberals, only hugs and understanding will disarm a crazed lunatic. Either that or taking the good guys guns will stop all this too. They never want to punish the bad guy, just the good guys.

From the article given it is unrealistic to draw any conclusions due to the sketchy information. It implies a case of domestic violence however.

Whether the woman was killed by gun or knife is irrelevant for the most part... she is sadly dead nonetheless. Law enforcement officers state that domestic violence situations are something they hate to respond to because they never know what they'll encounter.

Oh......another "something happened, but we don't know what" for the sake of getting the headline out there.

Wait until you have details to put an article out here.

IGHR> good luck with that, media jumping on the chance to serve up some dirty laundry.

Only a person with a real irrational fear of guns could think that is any kind of logical argument.

Maybe those who would remove all guns from responsible owners should think about this; during Prohibition alcohol became a "black market" item and could still be obtained, albeit, illegally. Make guns illegal, the "bad guys" will still be able to get guns on the black market. Higher prices, but still be able to obtain them,(you'll just create a greater commodity for the black market) just like illegal drugs and other items deemed illegal. Take NY city, 20 oz sodas banned. So whats to stop someone from buying two 16 oz sodas? Duh, wake up.
