Man Escapes From Sampson County Deputies

Posted April 11, 2008

— Authorities are searching for a man who fled on foot from the parking lot of the Sampson County Detention Center.

A deputy arrested Christopher Luis Maraquin, 17, of 70 Dusty Road, Clinton, Thursday afternoon for breaking and entering and larceny of motor vehicles. The deputy transported Maraquin to the magistrate's office to be formally charged.

While in the parking lot of the sheriff's office, Maraquin slipped away from the deputy, authorities said. He ran into a thick, wooded area behind the Sampson County Detention Center.

Authorities laid an additional charge of resiting, obstructing and delaying a public officer against Maraquin.

He is between 5 feet 11 inches and 6 feet tall and weighs 180 pounds.

Anyone with information on Maraquin's whereabouts is asked to call the Sampson County Sheriff's Office at 910-592-4141.

he looks like he is high or had a few. I hope the find him soon. circlecity, maybe you should join the department if you think you can do the job better. This has happened in many places and it will continue to happen. All it takes is for you to turn your head to shut and lock your door and they are gone.

Circlecity.....The last time I checked the SCSO has the right to issue tickets just like the SHP the CPD,RPD,NGPD,GPD, and SPD. I am glad they are allowed to give tickets and I think they do a great job. The SHP can't be on every road in Sampson County to issue tickets. You should be thankful other agencies are out there stopping drunk drivers and other criminals who would have gotten away if not for theses agencies.

circlecity are you even from sampson county (you say they need to learn how to do their jobs. things happen and people do get away at times but being from sampson county and going through town yesterday and seeing all the deputies out there looking for him i believe they were doing the best that they could in this situation. this boy and sampson county is not the only place that this has ever happened in so dont go judging the officers here on one mistake Granted there is a lot of room for improvement on somethings but hey they are only human as we are

Istead of giving ticket which the SHP should be the ones doing this, the sheriff department need to learn how to to their job better.
