— A 30-year-old man drowned Saturday evening at Roanoke Rapids Lake, according to the Roanoke Rapids Police Department.

Larry Silver was swimming with his family when he went underwater at about 6 p.m. and did not resurface, according to police.

The Roanoke Valley Fire Department and Roanoke Valley Rescue Squad recovered his body nearly an hour later.

Police say Silver, who was not believed to be a strong swimmer, was in deep water beyond the warning buoys when he went under.

The lake is located within Roanoke Rapids Lake Park. No other information was released.

"Police say Silver, who was not believed to be a strong swimmer, was in deep water beyond the warning buoys when he went under."

Why did he go out to "deep water beyond the buoys" if he wasn't a strong swimmer then?

Still, prayers for his loved ones. I'm so sorry for your loss.
