Man drowns in Person County lake

— A 50-year-old man drowned in Mayo Lake in Person County, authorities said Monday.

David Midyette, an officer with the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission said William Glenn Snow died Sunday evening.

Witnesses said he jumped off the back of a pontoon boat, swam a bit but never came back from beneath the water.

Emergency crews recovered Snow's body about an hour later, Midyette said.

Foul play is not suspected in his death.

    This is why life jackets are so important. Even strong swimmers can sometimes cramp up and go under. When this happens in a large, dark, deep body of water, rescue becomes very difficult.
